Kevin

Biography

I am Kevin, a Yoga practitioner, instructor/teacher based in Cape Town, South Africa. I completed my first 200 hr Hatha Yoga teacher training here in South Africa and subsequently further 200 hr and 300 hr teacher training courses in Rishikesh, India specialising in Vinyasa and Ashtanga Yoga. I have run my own Yoga classes, taught students on a one-to-one basis, conducted yoga classes at Gyms and even at an Indoor Climbing Centre. I practice the Yoga styles of Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Yin Yoga.

I am passionate about helping people to improve their lifestyles and general wellbeing. I have had the privilege of seeing people who have led sedentary lifestyles become happier and more confident just by doing some regular exercise. While doing yoga asana may not be practicing yoga in its full extent, I find that the physical part of yoga helps people in many ways and on occasion students develop a deeper interest and pursue Yoga further. Many do not and still reap the benefits of a healthier body and I would say by default a healthier mind as well.

I find that a little can go a long way, a little physical activity a couple of time a week is dramatically better that none. The practice of Yoga Asana helps with muscular strength, mobility, flexibility, balance, and concentration. Emphasis is also placed on breathing which itself has many benefits and assists in the relief of stress.

My approach is to have a light touch and offer as much guidance as I can, humour is something that comes naturally to me. The GK Chesterton quote about the Angels being able to fly because they take themselves lightly is applicable to my world view and I tend to laugh at my own mistakes and use my failings keep myself grounded.
